Keto Mashups: Hot Dog Ramen Edition

This is a recipe that some will think I created as a joke. Others will say I’ve finally lost my marbles. The truth is that back in the day Hot Dog Ramen was a college staple meal that I missed for some strange reason. I wanted to come up with a healthier version of this Collegiate comfort food.

My Ultimate Nostalgic Keto Food

Back in the day when most of my money was spent on guitars and bars it wouldn’t be uncommon for me to eat ramen 5 nights a week. Sometimes even twice a day. I had a million different ways I would make it none of which were even remotely healthy. Now that I’m living a healthier ketogenic lifestyle I wanted to recreate this nostalgic recipe using Miracle Noodles.

Miracle Noodles to the Rescue

Miracle Noodles are a fantastic substitute for traditional noodles if you know how to prepare them. First step is to always run them under hot water to rinse thoroughly. Next, pat them dry and let them drain. After that it’s all about adding flavor. On their one these noodles don’t taste like much of anything but they will absorb any spices and flavors you add quite well.

I used uncured hot dogs for this recipe but feel free to use any Encased meat you like. Maybe use chicken sausages or  something exotic like bison or elk. That being said I do actually prefer the hot dogs in this for their salty beefy flavor. As well as the nostalgic taste of my childhood .

Keto Ramen Broth

Quick and Easy Keto Ramen Broth

Now since we don’t have that silver flavor packet full of Msg we will need to put together our own broth. True ramen broth is an art form that requires hours of development and a laundry list of ingredients. I had no intentions of getting that complicated for this recipe so I created a quick broth that can be made in 10 minutes. If you wanted to make things even easier I’ve seen pre made pho and ramen broths that you could just doctor up yourself.

Once your ramen is made and ready to eat I like to add a quick sunny side up egg to the top. Traditionally you would see a soft boiled egg used but this is far from traditional and a quick fried egg will do just fine. I hope you give this completely blasphemous Keto Hot Dog Ramen a try.   • In a medium size saucepan sear off sliced hot dogs with avocado oil and miracle noodles until noodles are dry and hot dogs have caramelized.

  •  Turn temperature to low then Add sesame oil, Sambal, togarashi, fish sauce and liquid aminos. Stir to combine ingredients.

  • Pour over bone broth and simmer for about 10 minutes until just below boiling.

  • In a separate pan fry up a sunny side up egg.

  • Pour Ramen into large ramen bowl and top with fried egg, torn cilantro, shredded red cabbage and togarashi.
