History of the Mint Julep

Mint Juleps have been a staple at the Kentucky Derby all the way back to 1875. Fresh mint was grown on the grounds and quickly became the beverage of choice on race day and beyond.

Its estimated that over 120,000 mint juleps are served over the two day event at Churchill downs (pre covid) and remains the official drink of the Kentucky Derby.

Traditionally Woodford Reserve is the Official Bourbon of the Kentucky Derby but I personally enjoy Maker's Mark. Use The Bourbon You Like Best I Say!!!
