    The Butter Board Trend

    If you’ve been on the internet recently, you have probably seen the butter board trend or butter board TikTok trend that went viral and is circling social media.

    What you might not know is that the original recipe was created by Chef Josh McFadden and was made popular by Brooklyn-based cook Justine Doiron.

    I will admit I’m not always a huge fan of some food trends that come out of social media. However, I really like this one and enjoyed making my own butter board with a twist of Fall flavor.

    By making this recipe, you will discover a fun way … maybe even a new go-to way … to serve bread and butter as a snack or a simple holiday appetizer when entertaining.

    What is a Butter Board?

    I know what you are thinking, and yes, you are correct.

    The concept of a butter board is basically a new charcuterie board.

    Now, do I think anything could replace the classic meat and cheese boards? No, I think it will always have its own standalone place in the appetizer world.

    On the flip side, I do think this board would be great to pair alongside if you are entertaining!

    But what is this board exactly?

    Well, it is pretty simple; it is literally butter on a board. It is softened or room temperature butter spread onto a large wooden board and topped with whatever flavor combinations sound good.

    Pumpkin Spice Butter Board Ingredients

    Dairy: For this recipe, I used 2 sticks of unsalted butter that I left out and allowed to soften to room temperature.

    Pumpkin: Everything is nicer with a little bit of pumpkin spice, right? To get that perfect pumpkin flavor you will need ¼ cup of pumpkin puree and ¼ tsp of pumpkin spice.

    Toppings: Top it all off with tasty keto favorites like 1 tbsp of keto honey, ¼ cup of Catalina crunch cinnamon cereal, ¼ cup of pumpkin seeds, and ⅛ tsp of flaky sea salt.

    How to Make a Holiday Butter Board

    Spread butter. Start by spreading out your soft butter onto a board, then sprinkle tons of flakey salt on along with the pumpkin spice seasoning.

    Add toppings. Drizzle on the keto honey or sugar-free maple syrup, and top the butter with all your favorite keto-friendly toppings. I used pumpkin seeds, hazelnuts, and Catalina crunch cinnamon cereal.

    Serve and enjoy! Serve with your favorite low-carb pastries like my bourbon pumpkin bread.

    What to Serve with your Holiday Appetizer Board

    I enjoy serving communal snacks with bourbon pumpkin bread.

    The bread really ties in all those warm Fall flavors and makes it a true holiday recipe everyone will enjoy.

    If you are looking for other options or a variety of options, you can serve this with keto crusty bread, warm bread, or keto crackers.

    What Type of Butter Should I Use?

    Regular butter!

    One of the things I love about this trend and my recipe is, it doesn’t call for anything fancy or super expensive.

    When it came time for me to make my board, I used my favorite brand of unsalted butter and added flaky salt to the mix.

    Pro-Tip: If you use salted butter, you might want to go a little easy on the added salt.

    Butter Board Variations

    Do you like it sweet or savory? Either way, there is a version for everyone to enjoy!

    In just a few minutes, you can use other simple ingredients to create a simple side dish or sweet, easy dessert.

    Try other butter board recipes like honey with edible flowers, cinnamon and honey, fruit preserves and figs or fig jam, roasted garlic, chili flakes or chili oil, olive oil, prosciutto and shallots, and peanut butter with dark chocolate.

    Pro-Tip: If you have kids, you can get creative and make them breakfast boards with butter, a drizzle of honey, pancakes, and waffles!

    Helpful Kitchen Tools

    Cutting Board: Whether you have a fancy board you use for charcuterie, a flat cutting board, a wooden plank, or a marble serving board – pull it out and wash it off! We will be using it to … you guessed it … spread butter all over.

    Butter Knife: One of the best ways to spread butter is by using a butter knife like this one.

    Can I Make this Recipe with Cheese?

    Absolutely!

    Yes! This pumpkin spice board makes for fantastic communal food that people can gather and chat about.

    Depending on how big the gathering is, I would make a couple with a variety of flavors and sides to serve with!

    How to Clean your Board

    If all you can think about is how am I going to get my cutting board clean? Fear not; I’ve got the answers you are looking for.

    If you are worried about getting greasy leftover stains on your board, here is a quick and easy tip.

    I would recommend laying a piece of parchment paper on top of your board. This will make for an easy clean-up and keep your board stain free.

    Now, if you prefer to make a board the “traditional way,” I would recommend cleaning your board with some lemon juice, salt, and elbow grease.
